Know About Mumbai's New Double-Decker Road Project From Ghatkopar To Thane

Mumbai's New Double-Decker Road Project

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to build a double-decker route to make it easier for Mumbai residents to travel. The existing Eastern Expressway will be used to construct this 13-kilometre-long double-decker route. This route will run from Ghatkopar's Chhedanagar Junction to Thane's Anand Nagar.

The feasibility study for the double-decker road has been completed, according to a senior MMRDA official. The work on its Detail Project Report (DPR) will begin soon. This will be Mumbai's longest double-decker road, with 3-3 lanes on both sides for vehicular traffic. This project to eliminate traffic on the Eastern Expressway was approved at the authority's 154th meeting.

Vehicles will be able to travel from Thane to Ghatkopar at high speeds once the elevated corridor is connected to the Eastern Freeway.

“The problem of heavy traffic between Mumbai and Thane will be solved with the construction of an elevated corridor on the highway. Motorists will be able to travel from Mumbai to Thane without difficulty,” says SVR Srinivas, Commissioner (MMRDA)

Travel Will Be Easy

The Eastern Expressway connects Sion Junction with Majiwada Junction in Thane. Vehicles travelling from Gujarat and Nashik enter Mumbai via this highway. Every hour, thousands of vehicles pass through the highway. During peak hours, vehicles must contend with traffic jams at numerous highway junctions. Most vehicles can be seen at Chhedanagar Junction. As the number of vehicles on the road has increased rapidly in recent years, so has the problem of traffic congestion.

Arrangement Of Funds

MMRDA is working on several schemes at the same time to make it easier for citizens to travel within the MMR area. To fund the projects, the MMRDA has asked the government for toll collection rights at all Mumbai toll plazas.

People can travel to any part of the MMR region in a matter of minutes. For this, the Shivadi-Nhavaseva Trans Harbor Link Project, the Shivadi-Worli Connector, the Virar-Alibaug Corridor, the Vasai-Bhayander Bridge, the Coastal Road, the Versova-Bandra Sea-Link, and the Bandra-Worli Sea-Link will be linked.

Importance Of The Project

The 22-kilometre-long MTHL project connecting Mumbai and Navi Mumbai is nearly completed. Vehicle movement on MTHL is expected to begin by the end of this year or early next year.

Vehicles travelling from MTHL to Mumbai will take only a few minutes to reach Ghatkopar from Shivdi via the Eastern Freeway. With more vehicles expected to arrive on the Eastern Expressway in the near future, traffic congestion on the highway may worsen. In such a case, the double-decker route will be able to meet future needs.

Solution To Heavy Traffic

MMRDA commissioner S.V.R. Srinivas stated that the construction of the elevated corridor on the highway would eliminate the problem of heavy traffic between Mumbai and Thane. Motorists will be able to travel from Mumbai to Thane without difficulty.

Why Is It A Good Time To Invest In Thane

This project will undoubtedly aid in the process of decongesting the roads and Thane railway station, which are constantly congested. Aside from the already existing flyovers at Kapurbawdi, Waghbil and others have already made significant contributions to the development of the property and housing buying landscape.

Thane and its surrounding areas, such as Ghodbunder Road, Kolshet Road, and Majiwada, are rapidly urbanizing, resulting in significant improvements in terms of extensive connectivity, as well as civilian and social infrastructure.

This has completely transformed the region's market profile, transforming it into a hotshot real estate buying destination in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. As a result, every prominent Mumbai broker and builder has been investing heavily in Thane, which still has a large supply of properties available at reasonable prices.
